A sense of wonder. This is what those who go to Espaço Priceless, in the center of São Paulo, can expect when they enter the venue. That’s right: before tasting chef Onildo Rocha’s gastronomic creations for the Notiê and Abaru restaurants, visitors already feel immersed in the experience just by looking around.
This is because Priceless was designed to be a complex of multi-sensory experiences, and part of this mission was carried out by Patrícia Sobral, owner of the Paluana creative studio, who is responsible for the project’s ambience and art installations, such as the Notiê ceiling, which is an attraction every season – and it couldn’t be any different now, at Matas & Mares. Here’s a chat with her.
What did you want to achieve with the Priceless Space project, from the portico in the basement to the roof of Notiê?
Art as a guiding element, considering that Mastercard wanted a project that represented the Priceless concept, which speaks of what is priceless. That’s how I determined that the project needed to generate the unexpected, what hadn’t been seen before. That which makes us stop and take a deep breath. In short, what enchants us in some way. This is how the Priceless Space installations were born: Flows, Intercessions, Gardens, Botama Terrace and the roof of Notiê
How was Notiê’s roof designed for the third season, Matas & Mares?
I imagined the ceiling as a tribute to this forest, a recognition of its importance for biodiversity and environmental balance. I wanted to instigate an emotional connection with nature, to touch its essence.
Patricia Sobral, who created the setting for the Priceless Space
What was the new ceiling called and why?
It was created using the metaphor of an immense kaleidoscope, where every glance reveals a new composition of colors, shapes and textures. Just like the Atlantic Forest and its green canopies, which are home to countless species of fauna and flora, a veritable sanctuary of life. It is a constantly changing spectacle, where everything that inhabits it merges into a beautiful and infinite symphony. So the name chosen for the ceiling was Kaleidoscope.
When it comes to architecture, what can visitors to Espaço Priceless expect?
A sense of wonder. As the building is listed, we preserved its original architecture and opted to bring in a conceptual, totally scenographic space. The rooms are independent and connect through the installations, surprising visitors.
